    Hi there
    I have Keratoconus and a glasses RX of:
    OD: Sp -2.25 Cy -6.5 Ax +10
    OS: -2.0 -6.0 +165
    I used to use my prescribed hard GP lenses happily until one of them broke and I want to order a pair of new ones.
    Returning to glasses is painfully driving me mad due to the better sight that I had with my contact lenses despite the dust and carrying of artificial tear drops.
    Is this Syl+Cyl(1/2) what doctors use to prescribe hard GPs?

      Hello Jalal,

      I’m not an expert on keratoconus, but from my understanding of the condition, it is when the cornea gets thinner is certain places cause it to become misshapen. The new shape is ‘irregular’ and as a result, the cornea can no longer perfectly focus light, even when glasses or soft contact lenses are worn.

      The reason why people with keratoconus can see so well with hard GP lenses is that the contact lens covers the irregular part of the cornea and creates a new ‘regular’ surface which is capable of perfectly focusing light.

      When eye doctors fit someone into GP contact lenses for keratoconus, they spend a lot of time and attention finding the appropriate diameter and base curve so the lenses centre well and don’t cause damage to the cornea. Once the correct fitting parameters are found, it is then that your eye doctor will determine what prescription to put in them. The numbers will likely have very little to do with your original glasses prescription because the hard GP lenses are creating a new spherical surface and essentially masking all of the irregualr astigmatism.
