Introducing: Acuvue 1-Day Define

Johnson & Johnson has recently introduced an new contact lens brand into the North American market. It is called Acuvue 1-Day Define. They are based off of their already popular and successful daily lens Acuvue 1-Day Moist, but with a fun twist. They ‘enhance the natural beauty’ of your eyes!

Let’s look at an example of how theses lenses work.

Acuvue 1-Day Define Example

This graphic, taken from Acuvue.ca, demonstrates the effect of the lens on the eye. It does not change the color of the eye per se, but it adds a few interesting features, which by most people’s standards (and as dictated by market research) are considered to be quite aesthetically pleasing.

Here’s another graphic taken from Acuvue.ca to demonstrate how the lens works.

Acuvue 1-Day Define Design

As you can see, the emphasis is not on changing the eye color, but rather to add highlights, increase the vividness of the color and to define the outer ring (the limbus) to create sharp contrast with the white of the eye. There are different designs to choose from and each one will have a different effect on your eye. Depending on your eye color, and on the darkness of your eyes, some designs may work better than others, so it’s just a matter of trying them out. To see how they would look on someone like you, check out Acuvue.ca/define/#. There are 5 different designs available: NATURAL SPARKLE™, NATURAL SHIMMER™, NATURAL SHINE™, ACCENT STYLE, and VIVID STYLE.

For additional help determining which style is best for you, check out this quick video by Acuvue:

Lens Parameters

Because Acuvue 1-day Define lenses are based on the same material as Acuvue 1-day Moist, they offer the same benefits. Both are UV blocking (81% UVA, 97% UVB), and they come in the same base curve, diameter, water content and oxygen transmissibility (which are all decent). For now it seems that the Acuvue 1-Day Define lenses have slightly less prescriptions available, especially for farsighted folks (max +1.00D), but have the full range of prescriptions for the nearsighted (up to -9.00D). There is no astigmatism correction for the Acuvue 1-Day Define lenses (and likely won’t be anytime soon).

Unique Angle

Johnson & Johnson’s angle with this lens is that they’re not trying to change you, they’re trying to enhance what is already naturally beautiful about you. They want this lens to give their wearers more confidence and make them feel good about themselves without making it plainly obviously to everybody that they’re wearing a cosmetic contact lens. And in my opinion, they’ve done a very good job at it. Color contacts never really look natural. Acuvue 1-Day Define lenses do.

Price Point

Although they are similar to the Acuvue 1-Day Moist lenses, because they are more specialized, as you might have guessed, they are a little more expensive. Not all online retailers have begun selling Acuvue 1-Day Define lenses yet, but those that have list the 30-pack for $40.00 and the 90-pack for $94.00. In comparison, those same sites list Acuvue 1-day Moist 30-pack for $33.00 and the 90-pack for $63.50. As always and, as for every other popular brand, to discover the cheapest place on the internet to buy these lenses, check out my lowest prices page.

I hope you found this information helpful.

Very nice post. This will be a good option for my sister since this will not change her natural brown color eyes.

      Hi Demi,
Yes that’s the great thing about these lenses, you get to enhance your look AND keep your unique natural eye color. I’m happy for your sister, but what about you? ;)

OMG! A must have daily lens! I wore these lenses for a few days and fell in love. I have always turned to brown/hazel color contacts to give my natural dark brown eyes a different look, but everytime I would find myself discontinuing the use of them because they would make my eyes look very artificial. Define Lenses instantly enhance my natural color and contour my eyes, making them appear bigger, brighter, and naturally pretty just as product was advertised. I was never looking to change the color of my eyes completely but I figure that I have to wear lenses to see I may as well look good while wearing them. Definitely give these lenses a try, i highly recommend them. I’m also very happy that I found this site, there is a wealth of information and good content that helped me choose the right product.

      Hi Doris!
I do agree with you about the 1-day Define lenses. They use a proven and reliable lens material, and they create a very unique look that no color contact can really simulate. Besides, why should we want to change our eye color anyway, right? ;)
