Introducing: Acuvue 1-Day Define

Johnson & Johnson has recently introduced a new contact lens brand into the North American market. It is called Acuvue 1-Day Define. They are based off of their already popular and successful daily lens Acuvue 1-Day Moist, but with a fun twist. They 'enhance the natural beauty' of your eyes!

The lens does not change the color of the eye per se, but it adds a few interesting features, which by most people's standards (and as dictated by market research) are considered to be quite aesthetically pleasing. The emphasis is not on changing the eye color, but rather to add highlights, increase the vividness of the color and to define the outer ring (the limbus) to create sharp contrast with the white of the eye.

There are different designs to choose from and each one will have a different effect on your eye. Depending on your eye color, and on the darkness of your eyes, some designs may work better than others, so it's just a matter of trying them out. There are 5 different designs available: NATURAL SPARKLE™, NATURAL SHIMMER™, NATURAL SHINE™, ACCENT STYLE, and VIVID STYLE.

Lens Parameters

Because Acuvue 1-Day Define lenses are based on the same material as Acuvue 1-Day Moist, they offer the same benefits. Both are UV blocking (81% UVA, 97% UVB), and they come in the same base curve, diameter, water content and oxygen transmissibility (which are all decent). For now it seems that the Acuvue 1-Day Define lenses have slightly less prescriptions available, especially for farsighted folks (max +1.00D), but have the full range of prescriptions for the nearsighted (up to −9.00D). There is no astigmatism correction for the Acuvue 1-Day Define lenses (and likely won't be anytime soon).

Unique Angle

Johnson & Johnson's angle with this lens is that they're not trying to change you, they're trying to enhance what is already naturally beautiful about you. They want this lens to give their wearers more confidence and make them feel good about themselves without making it plainly obvious to everybody that they're wearing a cosmetic contact lens. And in my opinion, they've done a very good job at it. Color contacts never really look natural. Acuvue 1-Day Define lenses do.

Price Point

Although they are similar to the Acuvue 1-Day Moist lenses, because they are more specialized, as you might have guessed, they are a little more expensive. To find the current lowest price for Acuvue 1-Day Define lenses, check out the Contacts Advice price comparison page.
