My Experience With Bausch and Lomb ULTRA Contacts

In this article I will recount my experience the first time I tried on the new Bausch and Lomb ULTRA contact lens. I am no longer a regular contact lens wearer, so before I begin I want to start with some very relevant history.

Some History…

I started wearing contact lenses in the year 2000 and started doing what a lot of people do, but shouldn’t. I wore my contact lenses all day, every day. And I did this for many years.

Eventually it caught up to me and I started having a lot of dryness and discomfort with my contact lenses. I went to see an optometrists who told me I was developing a lot of contact lens related complications due to contact lens over-wear.

I had to be out of contact lenses for several months, and when I started wearing them again, it had to be part time, shared with my glasses.

However, my eyes never returned to the way they use to be. Maybe it was the contact lens over wear, or maybe it was just that I was getting older, but my eyes could never tolerate contact lenses for too long. I went from wearing them all day every day, to only being able to wear them for special occasions.

Eventually I had enough of glasses and contact lenses and in 2014 I decided to have LASIK eye surgery. My surgery was successful but because of my original prescription, I ended up with a small residual prescription. For the most part now, I am glasses and contact lens free. I still like to wear glasses when I drive and when I’m at the computer for a long time (I have a different prescription for each).

I put them in when I got to work around 9:30am. With certain brands I can feel the contact lenses right away when I put them in, but with the ULTRA contact lens. I could feel them as I was putting them in, but as soon as I blinked and they settled into place, it was like I wasn’t wearing anything at all.

I soon forgot all about them and I went about my days as I normally do. By lunch time I remembered I had them in and tried to see if I could feel them but it was still as though I wasn’t wearing anything. At this point I was already pretty impressed with them.

Later in the afternoon I happened to have an unexpected break in my schedule. So I decided I would try to have a nap (we have a nice comfy couch in our employee lounge) with the ULTRA contacts in my eyes to see how it would feel.

I managed to fall asleep for about 20-30 minutes and when I woke up, my eyes did feel a little dry. I couldn’t feel the contact lenses themselves, but I could tell my eyes had gotten a little drier than normal. This was what I was expecting, as these lenses are not designed for sleeping with. So I put in some artificial tears and went back to work.

It wasn’t long after my nap that I once again forgot that the ULTRA contact lenses were even in my eyes. I kept them in until about 10 p.m, which gave me about 12 hours of wear that day.Bausch & Lomb Ultra Contacts

Overall my impression of the Baucsh & Lomb ULTRA contact lens was very positive. It has been many years since my eyes became more or less intolerant to contact lenses, but the ULTRA contacts did not bother me. Granted, I only wore them for 1 day, but I could immediately tell that they were more comfortable than most other contacts.

The ULTRA contact lenses are intended to give wearers a full 16 hours of comfortable wear, and even though I didn’t wear them for that long (because I wasn’t awake for that long), it was definitely more comfortable than any other contact lens brand I’ve ever tried.
